Hard liquor could soon be served, but not sold, at weddings and other private parties at three Denver park facilities.

The proposal affects the Montclair Civic Building, known as the Molkery, and Chief Hosa Lodge as well as City Park Pavilion.

Beer, wine, champagne and “spirituous alcohol” would be allowed for private parties that receive a special permit.

In addition, the policy would allow the current regulations governing Central Park at Stapleton to continue once the city assumes control of the park from private interests this June.

Those rules allow festivals at Central Park to sell beer, wine and champagne and the consumption, but not sale, of beer, wine and champagne during private, permitted parties.

The parks department plan presented to City Council officials Wednesday has stirred some controversy with the Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation group, whose members say they hadn’t received sufficient notice. A public hearing on the matter is planned for May 8.
