LOS ANGELES — Joe Feeney, a tenor who crooned “Danny Boy” and other standards for 25 years on “The Lawrence Welk Show,” died April 16th at 76.
From 1957 to 1982, Feeney was the featured tenor on Welk’s show. He also sang for five presidents at the White House and for Pope John Paul VI in 1975 at the Vatican, according to his website.
Feeney won several singing contests at the University of Nebraska, where he was a starting quarterback. A tape of his singing sent to Welk in 1956 led to a guest spot on the show.
