The Avs vs. the Red Wings? Talk about a slice of retro heaven. What’s next, dollar-a-gallon gas?
In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s something in the air out there. A Clinton may be headed to the White House. The Lakers and Celtics could well meet in the NBA Finals. The Eagles’ latest collaboration is selling millions.
And now the Avs and Wings are gonna get it on again. Let the good times roll! And the old times, too.
OK, so it’s not the perfect matchup. It could only be perfect if Claude Lemieux came out of retirement and went face-to-face with Kris Draper. Or if Patrick Roy rumbled at mid-ice with the nearest Wings goaltender.
But considering where the Avs were two months ago, it’s close enough to perfect for our purposes. This isn’t the same Avs team that was dominated by the Wings during the season. Dominated to the tune of three shutouts in four games.
The Avs have a hot goalie, an improved power play and a solidified blue line. Add it all up and what do you have? I’m not sure if they’re good enough to pull off an upset against the Wings.
All I know is I’m going to enjoy the series. In fact, I feel younger already just writing about it.
