WESTMINSTER — A motorist was killed early Thursday morning after being hit by a truck on the Boulder Turnpike.

The victim had been involved in a single-car accident just after midnight near U.S. 36 and 80th Avenue, according to the Westminster Police Department. The occupants of the 2004 Chrysler four-door got out of the car and were on the highway when two of them were struck by an eastbound semi-truck, police said.

Robert Cano, 21, of Thornton died at the scene.

Javier Lerma, 23, of Northglenn was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital with critical injuries.
