A state Department of Education employee has been indicted for alleged marijuana trafficking.

Valencia Darlene Lopez, 36, of Aurora turned herself in to Idaho authorities today after she was indicted by a federal grand jury there.

“That is where the investigation took place. She received it (marijuana) here and sent it to Idaho for sale,” said Jeff Dorschner, spokesman for the Office of the U.S. Attorney in Denver.

According to the indictment, beginning in 1993 through early this month, Lopez conspired with others to distribute 100 kilos of pot. She also faces three counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

This article has been corrected in this online archive. Originally, due to incorrect information from a source, it reported an incorrect employer for Valencia Lopez. She works for the state Department of Education.
