MERCED, Calif. — A sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man who stormed through security at a county courthouse carrying two large butcher knives. District Attorney Larry Morse II said the man ran down the hall Monday and stormed into a courtroom. Witnesses say the Merced County deputy shot him shortly afterward.
A public defender said he recognized the man as a previous client with a history of mental illness.
