Large trout have been hard to come by lately at Spinney Mountain Reservoir. But not for Eric Luke. The Lafayette resident scored big on Wednesday’s opening day when he landed a 28-inch cutthroat-rainbow hybrid.
Luke used an orange-and-gold Kastmaster lure to land a hook-jawed male that later tipped the scales at 9.5 pounds. Anglers reported catching larger fish than on recent opening days, giving promise to a banner season at an impoundment that will fill earlier than usual with a banner runoff.
