A Fort Carson soldier who was training at Fort Irwin, Calif., died Saturday morning.
Spec. Emily T. Ort, 24, of Willis, Texas, was found unconscious in her sleeping bag in the Rotational Unit Bivouac Area of Fort Irwin, according to the post’s public affairs officer. She was treated on the scene and taken to Weed Army Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:22 a.m., according to the military.
Ort was the mother of a 16-month-old child.
The cause of death is unknown. Ort was a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Carson and was training at Fort Irwin.
The death is under investigation by the Fort Irwin Criminal Investigation Division, the military said.
