UTLEY’S BIG HIT SPARKS PHILLIES
PHOENIX — Chase Utley singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Arizona twice blew late-inning leads Wednesday night when the Phillies beat the Diamondbacks 5-4.
Conor Jackson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a run-scoring double that put Arizona up 4-3 in the seventh, but he left the game after a nasty head-to-head collision with the Phillies’ Shane Victorino in the eighth.

HOUSTON — Kaz Matsui reached base on a walk, stole second and raced to third on a wild pitch before scoring the winning run on a single by Carlos Lee in the ninth.

LOS ANGELES — John Maine (4-2) hit a two-run single and was two outs from his third shutout and complete game in the majors when Matt Kemp hit an RBI single.
Braves 5, Padres 2
ATLANTA — Pinch-hitter Greg Norton broke a seventh-inning tie with a bases-loaded single, and Atlanta recorded its fifth consecutive victory.
Marlins 6, Brewers 2
MIAMI — Jorge Cantu and Dan Uggla hit back-to-back homers, and rookie Burke Badenhop (1-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings for his first major-league victory.
Pirates 3, Giants 1
PITTSBURGH — Xavier Nady hit a two-run homer to spoil Barry Zito’s return to the rotation, and Phil Dumatrait (1-1) pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings for his first career win.
Reds 9, Cubs 0
CINCINNATI — Jon Lieber (2-2) became only the second pitcher in Cubs history to give up four homers in an inning, and Joey Votto connected three times in all.
