ALTA, Iowa — When word gets to the bowling alley bar that a blind guy is on pace for a perfect game, you have to leave the suds and the stool behind.
Dale Davis, who is 78 and legally blind, had patrons at the Century Lanes gathering behind the scorer’s table Saturday night as he rolled a 300 game in league play. Davis has limited peripheral vision but can’t see straight ahead.
Century Lanes owner Clem Ledoux said Thursday that Davis’ game didn’t draw much attention until he reached 10 strikes. That’s when folks poured out of the bar to watch his final two shots.
Ledoux said Davis threw a “Brooklyn,” when a right-hander strikes the left side of the head pin, for his final strike. The feat brought wild cheers from Davis’ fellow bowlers and onlookers.
