Getting your player ready...
A quick-and-tasty pitchers duel is on the menu tonight at Petco Park. The Rockies start Aaron Cook (5-1, 2.40 ERA), the one positive constant in a shaky rotation. He’s coming off his fifth straight victory, a workmanlike 7 2/3-inning effort Sunday against the Dodgers. San Diego right-hander Jake Peavy (4-1, 2.22), the reigning Cy Young winner, is coming off a dominant performance against the Florida Marlins. Utilizing his biting slider, Peavy struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings. In his April 17 start against the Rockies in San Diego, he pitched eight scoreless innings in a game the Rockies eventually won 2-1 in 22 innings.
