Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in wide areas of the state today, with snow in some parts of the high country and hail possible on the plains.
Denver could see thunderstorms this afternoon, with brief but heavy downpours, according to the National Weather Service.
Skies in Denver have been mostly cloudy, and the high temperature is expected to be about 66 degrees.
The chance of thunderstorms will decrease late this afternoon and early this evening from west to east, the weather service said.
The Eastern Plains could see severe storms, including up to 1-inch diameter hail this afternoon east of Fort Morgan and Limon.
In parts of the northern mountains today, snow should fall at elevations above 7,500 feet, turning to rain at lower levels, according to the weather service. Heavy snow could fall today at elevations above 9,500 feet.
In Vail, rain and snow showers are likely, the weather service said. Skies in Vail will be mostly cloudy, and thunder could clap as the high temperature climbs to about 51 degrees. Snow accumulations, if any, should be very light, less than half an inch.
Friday in Denver, skies should be partly sunny, and the high temperature could reach about 70 degrees, the weather service reports.
Saturday is expected to be cloudy in Denver, with a 30 percent chance of rain and a high temperature of about 53 degrees, the weather service said. Sunday should be sunny, with a high near 70 degrees.
