An armed, attempted kidnapping in a Superior grocery-store parking lot was foiled by an uncooperative victim and store employees who rushed to her aid.

The incident happened Wednesday night in the parking lot of Whole Foods, 303 Marshal Place, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The 53-year-old woman told investigators that she was attacked from behind by a man armed with a black handgun who attempted to push her into her car.

The woman struggled with the assailant, screamed and activated her car horn to alert people around her of the situation, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

As store employees ran toward the car, the suspect fled on foot, running south out of the parking lot toward Old Towne Superior.

The suspect was a husky man in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall with short dark hair and a dark complexion. He was wearing sunglasses, a dark green T-shirt, dark-colored shorts and a dark-colored backpack.

Anyone who witnessed the attempted abduction is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 303-441-3615.
