Some notable ballot measures that will be or might be on state ballots this November. Most have not yet qualified:

ARIZONA: Ban same-sex marriage. Revoke business licenses from employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.

ARKANSAS: Ban gays and lesbians from adopting or being foster parents. Require government agencies to verify all those seeking public benefits are legal U.S. residents. Create state lottery.

CALIFORNIA: Ban same-sex marriage. Prohibit government from seizing most homes by eminent domain for redevelopment projects.

COLORADO: Define human life as beginning at fertilization. Ban race- and gender-based affirmative action. Prohibit mandatory union membership and mandatory union dues.

FLORIDA: Ban same-sex marriage.

MICHIGAN: Allow medical use of marijuana. Provide universal health care plan for all state residents.

MONTANA: Define human life as beginning at fertilization.

NEBRASKA: Ban race- and gender-based affirmative action.

NORTH DAKOTA: Cut income tax rates by 50 percent for individuals, 15 percent for corporations.

OHIO: Give cash bonuses to Ohio veterans of Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghan wars. Require most businesses to give employees paid sick days.

SOUTH DAKOTA: Ban abortions, except in cases of rape, incest and serious health threat to the mother.
