A troubled Denver charter school tonight submitted its school improvement plan, meeting a deadline in its bid for contract renewal by the district.
Challenges, Choices and Images charter school is under increasing scrutiny for its problematic finances and questionable hiring practices.
The school has several employees with criminal pasts. The district and Denver District Attorney’s Office are looking into whether the school used public money to start a private day care.
The school is seeking renewal of its charter contract with the district, which expires June 30.
Denver’s school board in February recommended renewing the school on one-year probation if it provided a detailed school improvement plan, showing how it will improve its academics, finances and board governance.
District officials refused to release the plan to the public, saying they needed time to review it.
