DENVER—The Colorado Rockies have placed right-handed reliever Ryan Speier on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right shoulder.
Speier, 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA, was hit Sunday by a ball off the bat of San Diego’s Tadahito Iguchi.
He was placed on the DL late Wednesday, retroactive to Monday.
The Rockies recalled left-hander Josh Newman from Triple-A Colorado Springs. He is expected to be in uniform for Thursday’s game at Arizona.
