I read the news today, oh boy, and it was enough to make you wonder what the world is coming to. There are, however, tons of good people doing neat things right here in Denver, and we’re here to tell you about them:

• Guenther Vogt and BJ Dyer celebrated 32 years together by flying around the world — not in 80 days like the movie but on a somewhat shorter trip that included stops in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and Paris. No sooner did the owners of Bouquets land back in Denver than BJ hopped a plane to California, where he joined former Sunset magazine editor Steven Lorton as a keynote speaker for the Carmel- by-the-Sea Flower Show. In July, BJ heads to Chicago to share his floral design wisdom at an international symposium of the American Institute of Floral Designers.

• Ron and Barbara Thring — he’s the men’s merchandising coordinator for Corral West Ranchwear — celebrated the 36th anniversary of their first date by helping raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by attending the recent Dream Gala.

• Eat-A-Dish for Make-A-Wish, a promotion by Maggiano’s Little Italy, is helping fulfill the wishes of two Colorado children with life- threatening illnesses. For each item ordered from a special menu this month, the restaurant is donating $1 to 17-year-old Christian’s college tuition fund and $1 to help pay for 4- year-old Lily’s trip to Disney World.

• Sullivan’s Steakhouse, meanwhile, is donating a portion from each bottle of wine sold this month to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado.

• The Multiple Sclerosis Young Professionals Network has a networking cocktail party going down Wednesday evening at Maloney’s Tavern, 1432 Market St. Visit or .

• Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis talks about his struggles with HIV, domestic violence, dyslexia and substance abuse at a luncheon Thursday that benefits the Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network. Colorado first lady Jeannie Ritter will be a guest at this event at the Inverness Hotel. Call 303-779-9676.

• The new Girls Inc. Junior Alliance is having a Membership & Mojitos fiesta Thursday at May Wilson’s Highland neighborhood home. The group is geared to those 21 to 35 years old; dues are $35 a year. More at .
