DENVER—Parent-teacher organizations will no longer have to pay taxes on bake sales and other fundraisers under two new laws signed by Gov. Bill Ritter.

One creates a tax exemption on sales that benefit public and private schools. The other exempts parent-teacher groups from taxes on fundraisers.

Ritter signed the bills Wednesday.

He says cutting red tape will allow schools and their supporters to focus on education rather than paperwork.
