COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs officials have dropped a building-code case against state Rep. Douglas Bruce because he sold the properties in question.
Bruce had boarded up the windows of the two buildings under orders from the city. After a new ordinance declared boarded-up buildings to be dilapidated, the city ordered him to replace the boards with screens so police could look inside for loiterers.
He refused and appealed. He then sold the buildings on May 9 and the city dropped the case last week.
Bruce says the case is an example of a city vendetta against him.
The Republican lawmaker made headlines in the Legislature this year for kicking a photographer and calling migrant workers “illiterate peasants.”
