DENVER—Some 21,000 state workers will be voting whether to join a coalition of unions.
Ballots went out this week to a vast majority of the state’s 32,000 workers who qualify for “partnership agreements” under Gov. Bill Ritter’s executive order issued Nov. 2.
Unions had fewer than 6,000 dues-paying state workers before Ritter’s order.
The Colorado Association of Public Employees, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the American Federation of Teachers formed a coalition called “Colorado WINS” four days after Ritter’s order and launched a furious recruitment campaign.
Opponents say Ritter unnecessarily opened the door to future wage disputes.
