GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A woman accused of providing a hiding place for a man suspected of shooting and wounding a state trooper faces sentencing July 18 after being convicted of accessory charges.
A jury in Glenwood Springs deliberated 90 minutes Wednesday before finding Nicole Brownell guilty on two counts of being an accessory to attempted first-degree murder.
Brownell’s 41st birthday is Thursday.
Prosecutors said the Silt-area woman let Steven Appl (apple) stay at her residence after he shot state Trooper Brian Koch (cook) during a traffic stop in October 2006. Appl later committed suicide at a checkpoint south of Silt.
Koch remains in constant pain since the shooting, and his injuries have forced him to leave law enforcement work.
He’s now a safety consultant with ConocoPhillips.
