PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ decision to get more physical with the Detroit Red Wings not only helped them get back in the Stanley Cup Final series, it might have put out one of Detroit’s better forwards.
Winger Tomas Holmstrom’s status for Game 4 at Mellon Arena seems questionable, after he took a hard hit from Pittsburgh’s Hal Gill in Wednesday’s Game 3. Holmstrom seemed to be favoring his right leg after the hit in the crease from the big Penguins defenseman.
“After the game, he didn’t feel too good,” Detroit coach Mike Babcock said today. “The good thing is, we have today to look at it and see how he is tomorrow, and then we’ll move ahead from there.”
The Red Wings took Thursday off from all hockey activities.
“I think staying fresh as a team and using today in a good manner and not wearing on your people (is good),” Babcock said. “We didn’t win the game, but it’s a new day today. It’s sunny. Let’s go.”
