Two people were seriously injured and several others slightly hurt when a large crane on the Black Thunder Mine in northeast Wyoming collapsed Saturday.
Campbell County sheriff’s deputy C.T. Akers said he received a call about 12:30 p.m. that a crane had collapsed 13 miles east of Wright. The crane was used in the construction of new coal storage silos. It is unclear what caused the collapse.
The Black Thunder Mine is serviced by BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railway. BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the rail line was shut down for safety.
Akers said one injured worker was airlifted to Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, and two others were taken there by ambulance.
