One of the last predictable elements of the season has vanished. Even third baseman Garrett Atkins is slumping.
After getting a breather Saturday, he broke an 0-for-15 skid with a fourth-inning single Sunday. Atkins’ average has dropped 32 points since he sat at .344 on May 19.
“I have to get that feel back that I had a few weeks ago,” Atkins said.
Rotation adjustment.
The Rockies planned to skip Glendon Rusch’s next start because of Thursday’s off day, but that is no longer a certainty after Ubaldo Jimenez was struck on the left kneecap with a line drive. Jimenez might require a few extra days of rest, leaving Rusch a possible starter Friday at Coors Field.
Jim-nastics.
When the Rockies saw Jim Edmonds as a Padre in April, he appeared ready to retire, plagued by a calf injury and a hollow bat. But he torched Colorado this weekend, going 5-for-7 with five RBIs.
