GREELEY, Colo.—The coach of Colorado Eages hockey defenseman Les Borsheim says he underwent surgery after being thrown from his motorcycle and that he’s alert and talking to teammates.

Eagles coach Chris Stewart says the 29-year-old is breathing on his own and he understands he was in a bad crash. Stewart told the Fort Collins Coloradoan that Borsheim suffered a neck injury after the accident Sunday about three miles east of Greeley.

The State Patrol says Borsheim was riding his motorcycle when he missed a right-hand curve and went off the left side of the road. He was not wearing a helmet.

North Colorado Medical Center spokesman Gene Haffner says Borsheim remained in critical condition Monday.

Borsheim faces charges of driving under the influence and careless driving.
