Time Warner Inc.’s “Sex and the City,” the film version of the television series, had $55.7 million in ticket sales at U.S. and Canadian theaters over the weekend, ousting last week’s top film, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” That Paramount adventure movie made $46 million in its second weekend.

“The Strangers,” starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a vacationing couple who are terrorized by masked youths, opened third with $20.7 million. Among other returning films, “Iron Man” fell to fourth place and “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” dropped to fifth. Bloomberg News
