GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Prosecutors have filed felony charges against a truck driver who originally faced lesser counts after a fatal crash near El Jebel in January.

Mark Chamness of Littleton now faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Charges of careless driving causing death and other misdemeanors were dismissed when the felonies were filed last week. Prosecutors have not returned calls seeking comment on their decision.

Chamness’ attorney was out of the office and wasn’t available for comment.

Authorities say Chamness had stopped with his trailer blocking both westbound lanes of Colorado 82 while he was trying to enter the eastbound lanes from a driveway. Two people were killed when their car collided with the trailer.
