Getting your player ready...

Colorado Eagles hockey defenseman Les Borsheim underwent surgery Sunday after being thrown from his motorcycle, according to the team’s coach, but the injured player was alert Monday and talking to teammates.

Eagles coach Chris Stewart said the 29-year-old was breathing on his own and understands he was in a bad crash. Stewart said Borsheim suffered a neck injury in the accident Sunday about three miles east of Greeley.

The State Patrol said Borsheim was riding his motorcycle when he missed a right-hand curve and went off the left side of the road. He was not wearing a helmet. North Colorado Medical Center spokesman Gene Haffner said Borsheim remained in critical condition Monday. He faces charges of driving under the influence and careless driving.
