Organizers of the Sunrise Century in the foothills west of Boulder expect the June 14 bicycling event to reach a cap of 1,500 riders.
The event, which was created last year, features rides of 100, 75, 60 and 45 miles.
“The Sunrise Century showcases some of the most beautiful terrain in Colorado, and the Peak to Peak Highway has got everything — great views, low traffic, altitude and a wide, safe shoulder for bikes,” said Dan Grunig, executive director of Bicycle Colorado.
The event, which travels through Niwot, Lyons, Jamestown, Ward and Nederland, benefits several nonprofit organizations. Information: .

Volunteers needed for wilderness trips.
Big City Mountaineers, the country’s leading volunteer organization devoted to mentoring urban teens through wilderness adventure, is seeking volunteers for its 2008 summer trips. Five adults are paired with five teens from a local youth program for an eight-day backpacking or paddling trip in July and August.
Men and women volunteers, 21 and older, are being sought for the summer programs based in the Denver area for backpacking trips, as well as Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin for Boundary Waters paddling trips.
During these trips in the wilderness, the teens are taught backcountry basics such as setting up camp and leave-no-trace ethics. They also are encouraged to face challenges and fears they might come across, as most of the participants have never been on a trip like this before.
There is a volunteer fee of $100 to cover basic costs.
