FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Months after campus newspaper the Rocky Mountain Collegian published a four-word editorial that directed a four-letter word at President Bush, Colorado State University announced it was separating student media from the school.

In announcing the Board of Governor’s decision Tuesday to make Student Media a nonprofitt entity receiving $500,000 from the school, officials did not mention the editorial that sparked complaints in September.

Officials said the idea first surfaced in 2005 and is modeled after other universities. Aside from the Collegian, College Avenue Magazine, radio station KCSU and television station CTV will operate through the nonprofit.
