The Celtics vs. the Lakers in the NBA Finals?
Talk about a slice of retroheaven. It makes you think of when you were listening to your 8-track tape deck and trying to dance like John Travolta.
But then, this series has nothing to do with all those other Lakers-Celtics series. This is about 2008. So which team is going to win this thing?
Let’s put it this way. Unless Larry Bird comes rolling in in a flux-capacitor-equipped silver DeLorean, the Celtics are in big trouble.
This won’t be a particularly close series. Since I’m in a good mood today, I’ll give the Celtics one win. But that’s it. Lakers in five.
Noting against the Shamrocks. It’s just that the Lakers are a better team. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the numbers.
The Lakers have lost, count ’em, seven games since the Gasol trade went down in January. Seven games. And yes, that’s counting the playoffs.
The Celtics? They lost six games to Atlanta and Cleveland in the past few weeks alone. They’re a good team, a savvy team, a team that unquestionably was the class of the Eastern Conference.
But that’s the problem. The Lakers were the class of the West, and there’s no comparison between the two conferences.
Frankly, I expect Kobe and Co. to have an easier time against the Celtics than they did against Tim Duncan and the Spurs.
