AZTEC, N.M.—New Mexico jurors have convicted an Ignacio, Colo., man of second-degree murder in the beating death of his girlfriend last July at Navajo Lake where they were camping.
An autopsy found that Patricia Pacheco likely died of blunt force trauma.
The jury in Aztec also found 55-year-old Jonathan Hunt guilty Thursday of misdemeanor battery and assault for trying to attack a woman who was sleeping in her car in a neighboring campsite.
Pacheco’s son, Robert Lopez, says he’s happy with the verdict.
Hunt faces up to 17 years in prison.
