LARIMER COUNTY — A 66-year-old Fort Collins man died from a broken neck when he tumbled at least 500 feet on a steep, snowy slope in Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday, according to the Larimer County coroner’s office.
Witnesses called for help from a cellphone when they saw Richard Frisbie fall about 3 p.m. above the western edge of Emerald Lake. He had no pulse when witnesses reached him at 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from Rocky Mountain National Park officials.
It took rescuers until 10 p.m. to bring his body out. He was wearing appropriate equipment and a helmet, according to park rangers.
