COMMERCE CITY — Commerce City police put the brakes on an illegal street race Sunday in the 5400 block of East 48th Avenue.
The city’s Special Investigative Unit wrote 73 citations for “aiding and facilitating a speed contest.” Three people were arrested, two for giving false information and one for interference with a police operation.
Police towed six cars, including two that were racing when officers showed up.
Seven of the street racers got punctured tires when they tried to elude police and ran across spike strips set up during the raid, according to Commerce City police.
Police said it was only the latest in a series of measures aimed at curbing illegal racing.
