The Avalanche on Tuesday traded for center Marty Sertich, sending a draft choice to the Dallas Stars in exchange for the former Colorado College star.
Sertich, 25, led the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League in scoring last season with 52 points (27 goals, 25 assists) in 79 games.
Sertich played four seasons at Colorado College and won the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player in 2005. That season he led the nation in scoring with 64 points and ranked second nationally in goals (27) and assists (37), helping the Tigers qualify for the Frozen Four.
Sertich ranks 12th in CC history in scoring with 166 points and seventh in assists with 121. The Stars signed him as a free agent in July 2006. To acquire him, the Avs sent Dallas a conditional pick in the 2009 draft.
