Firefighters on Tuesday fought two small blazes fueled by warm temperatures and high winds at Cherry Creek State Park and Fort Carson.
One fire burned more than an acre of brush and grass at the park before it was extinguished, authorities said.
Parker and South Metro Fire Rescue firefighters were called to the blaze late in the morning.
Roads leading into the park were closed for a time.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office, two employees of the Split Rail Fence Company were welding posts at the site when a spark caught the grass on fire.
The two tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but called 911 when they were unsuccessful.
Fort Carson Fire and Emergency Service extinguished a 3-acre wildfire near the Colorado Springs base today.
Four trucks were sent to the scene after the blaze was reported before noon, said Fort Carson spokeswoman Karen Linne. It was out by 1:20 p.m.
Hot weather, low humidity, winds and dry ground conditions combined to boost fire dangers across a wide area of Colorado south of the Interstate 70 corridor including South Park, the southern Front Range foothills, Palmer Divide and the eastern plains, the weather service said. A red flag fire warning was issued from noon through 8 p.m.
