LOS ANGELES—U.S. Marshals have arrested a fugitive wanted on suspicion of killing a man in Colorado and robbing two banks in Southern California, authorities said Tuesday.
Richard Regalado, 31, surrendered at a Fontana home Monday night following a one-hour standoff with marshals who surrounded the residence and ordered him to come out, Deputy U.S. Marshal Toby Green said.
Authorities received several leads on Regalado’s whereabouts after the television show “America’s Most Wanted” aired a segment about him.
The Jefferson County sheriff’s department in Colorado allege that Regalado shot and killed his cousin’s boyfriend in July.
Regalado fled to Southern California where he was later charged with robbing two banks, Green said.
During the second robbery, Regalado took an elderly woman hostage and evaded police by jumping out of the getaway car and running across train tracks in front of a moving train, Green said. Regalado’s alleged accomplice was apprehended but police dogs, helicopters and search crews could not find him.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Regalado has retained an attorney.
