Thunderstorms unleashing large hail could rumble across the Front Range this afternoon and there’s a slight chance for “weak” tornadoes on the eastern plains.

Front Range storms could hit this afternoon along the foothills and Palmer Divide and some could become severe this afternoon and tonight, the National Weather Service reports.

Widely scattered thunderstorms should move across the northeastern corner of the state late this morning producing brief but heavy rains, the weather service said. The mountains could also be hit with scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds this afternoon.

Mostly cloudy skies will bring a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms to Denver as the high temperature reaches about 78 degrees, the weather service said.

Tomorrow in Denver, skies should remain cloudy and the chance of showers and thunderstorms will increase to 30 percent, according to the weather service. It will be warmer tomorrow as well with Denver’s high temperature climbing to about 86 degrees.
