Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck dropped a charge of driving under the influence Friday against Les Borsheim, a popular member of the Colorado Eagles hockey team who was seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident June 1.
Buck said in a statement he was dropping both a DUI and careless-driving charges against Borsheim in the “interest of justice.”
Borsheim is trying to regain mobility in his limbs after the crash and he’s “got that spark back in his personality,” said Ed McGrane, Borsheim’s teammate and close friend.
Borsheim, 29, who lives in Windsor, was driving a 1987 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that failed to make a right-hand curve at Weld County roads 60.5 and 55. The motorcycle went off the left side of Weld County Road 60.5, and Borsheim was thrown from the cycle, which continued on its own before crashing.
Borsheim was airlifted to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley after the accident. He has undergone surgery to repair damage to his neck and is in rehabilitation. Buck told the Greeley Tribune that the medical issues Borsheim is facing along with insufficient blood-test results played a role in dropping the charges.
