Denver jailers have agreed to hand over to the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado a policy and procedure manual that deals with the processing and treatment of detainees at the downtown jail, the civil rights group announced Wednesday.
The handover of the manual is part of an agreement in which the city pays the ACLU’s attorneys’ fees up to $5,000 but admits no wrongdoing, the ACLU said. The handover — due by June 25 — still could contain blacked-out sections, the ACLU said, which could send the matter back to court.
The ACLU wants to review the policies in anticipation of the Democratic National Convention “because of the possibility of mass arrests in connection with protests.”
Officials said last month that additional processing facilities would be in place during the convention to handle as many as 3,000 arrests quickly.
