A U.S. Air Force Academy cadet made a perfect landing today — but on a fairway instead of a runway.

Cadet 1st Class Kurt Cloutier, a senior at the academy north of Colorado Springs, safely landed a TG-15 glider at the approach to the fifth hole at the private Garden of the Gods Club golf course, which was closed for renovations, the Air Force said.

Cloutier, an instructor, was alone when weather forced him down before he could return to the academy.

The incident will undergo a routine review by officers at the academy, according to a statement from the Air Force.

The Air Force said cadets have trained on the TG-15 glider since February 2006. The TG-15, commonly referred to as the “Discus,” also is used by the cadet cross-country advanced competition flying team.
