SALIDA, Colo.—A 61-year-old man died Thursday after his raft overturned on the Arkansas River in Salida.

Chaffee County sheriff’s officials say James Kennedy of Woodland Park was pulled out of the water about a mile from where the raft overturned. Kennedy was breathing but was unresponsive when found and he died a short time later at a hospital.

A guide and two other clients made it safely to shore.

Meanwhile, Chaffee County coroner Randy Amettis says an autopsy determined that Oscar Stevenson III, 67, of Eastville, Va., died of a heart attack Tuesday. Stevenson was on a raft that overturned at a spot on the Arkansas River known as Pinball Rapids near Buena Vista.
