ST. PAUL—Police say most of the roads in downtown St. Paul will remain open to traffic during the 2008 Republican National Convention.
But authorities are still finalizing plans for the blocks immediately surrounding the Xcel Energy Center.
The convention will be held at the Xcel Center from September 1 through September 4.
Assistant Police Chief Matt Bostrom says he doesn’t foresee any business being forced to close.
St. Paul City Engineer John Maczko says a downtown construction moratorium will be in place during the convention to keep traffic moving as freely as possible.
More traffic updates are expected in August. There could be additional vehicle restrictions, and some buses could be rerouted.
