PUEBLO, Colo.—Pueblo police are mourning the death of an officer who collapsed and died while running toward a disturbance downtown.
Thirty-year-old Nicholas Heine (HI’-nee) died Saturday morning.
Police Chief James Billings says Heine and other officers were responding to several disturbances when Heine collapsed. Officers performed CPR on Heine, but he died later at a hospital.
Billings says the department wasn’t aware of anything that might have indicated Heine was at risk of a heart attack. The official cause of death wasn’t immediately known.
Heine served with the department for seven years. Survivors include his wife, two daughters and his mother, who also is a Pueblo police officer.
