Denver police are investigating after a man’s body was found in the South Platte River near 15th Street, authorities say.
A passer-by called 911 on his cellphone after seeing the body at about 7:20 a.m. today, said Alex Paez, Denver fire spokesman.
Paez said the adult male appeared to have been in the water “for some time.”
Firefighters who arrived at the scene found the man’s body about an arm’s length from the west bank of the river and tried to resuscitate him, Paez said.
The man’s name will not be released until his family has been notified, he said.
It is not known how he ended up in the river, Paez said.
Police officers are investigating but do not believe foul play was involved, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.
The Denver coroner’s office will determine the cause of death, Jackson said.
