Getting your player ready...
Some Nuggets fans might be angry they won’t get a new player in tonight’s draft for the second consecutive year, but Denver’s trade of the 20th overall pick — sent to Charlotte for a future first-rounder — does make some sense.
As vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien explained Wednesday, it would be tough for an unproven player to crack Denver’s veteran-laden roster anyway. And the acquired pick now gives Denver “ammo,” he said, for a possible trade. Worst comes to worst, the Nuggets have a future first-round pick to play with.
“There is a myriad of possibilities with what you can do with it,” Warkentien said. “We love the flexibility. Good businesses remain flexible.”
