Andres Castillo, the survivor in a shootout with police in LoDo on June 22, was formally charged today with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and five counts of second-degree assault.
Castillo, 26, is accused of shooting at police, after his cousin Mark Tabullo-Zuniga, 23, handed him a shotgun after he was fatally wounded by police at 18th and Market streets just before 2 a.m. on a Sunday, when the bars were closing.
Police say Tabullo-Zuniga was arguing with another man in a parking lot when gunfire erupted between the two men. Tabullo-Zuniga fired on police, who shot and killed him.
At least 20 rounds were fired in the area crowded with bar patrons. Four bystanders and Castillo were wounded, though none of their injuries were life-threatening, and a shotgun pellet tore through a police officer’s shirt.
Castillo is in custody, but continues to recuperate dy at Denver Health Medical Center. He is scheduled for a first appearance in Court Thursday morning.
Denver Police continue to look for the third gunman in the parking lot. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 720-913-7867.
