Misreading your home: Know your home’s architecture — what designers refer to as “the bones” of the house. Use it to inform the design.
Too much clutter: Accessories can make a room, but too much clutter takes away from the foundation and function of the space.
Too much or too little color: Color-phobes should layer in different neutral hues. Color lovers should make sure all their hues are in balance with one another.
Creating a furnished lineup: Pull furniture away from the walls, especially in large rooms. Creating seating areas away from walls encourages intimate groups.
Lighting: If a room is not lit properly, it will fall flat to the eye. Well-balanced light will make the room feel and look better. It doesn’t have to be bright, just well dispersed.
