Traffic is down to one lane in each direction on South University Boulevard from East Euclid Avenue to East Arapahoe Road and is expected to stay that way through Thursday evening as work continues on a broken water main.
Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes after a pipe ruptured Tuesday at about 12:45 p.m., she said.
Denver Water crews have gotten the specialized pipe they needed to continue work on the 18-inch pipe.
“A special piece of pipe called an insulated transition coupling had to be custom made by Denver Water before repairs could move forward,” said Denver Water spokeswoman Stacy Chesney.
A small number of homes went without water for a short time, she said.
The line break left a 24-foot by 20-foot hole in the street, Chesney said.
