Sunday marks the first day Colorado liquor stores can put out their “Open for business” signs.
Gov. Bill Ritter in April signed a bill, which took effect Tuesday, that finally brings Colorado in line with 34 other states that have already eliminated the unnecessary government regulations on a legal activity.
We were in favor of this measure from the beginning for just that reason.
But it’s important to remember that with consuming alcohol comes responsibilities, and on this three- day holiday weekend, it’s critical that all adults take the high road.
So to speak.
We’ve learned over and over that drinking and driving do not mix.
The intent in opening liquor stores on Sundays was to match the law with 21st century lifestyles and consumer habits.
Be sensible. Designate a driver, call a cab or stay at home. Make this weekend more about celebration and relaxation than inebriation.
And keep in mind, as macabre as it sounds, mortuaries are open for business on Sundays, too.
Be safe.
